Futures for Children 2013 Elementary/Middle School Youth Leadership Summit
The 2013 Elementary/Middle School Youth Leadership Summit was held on May 3-5 in Albuquerque, NM.
Students participated in activities at both the Futures for Children building and at Albuquerque Academy. Activities consisted of workshops in teambuilding and team development, a ropes course, and a visit from Albuquerque Humane Society to discuss proper care of our animal friends. Marriott Courtyard Albuquerque provided lodging for students, team leaders, and staff. Both students and team leaders declared the summit an educational and challenging experience. Students express their enthusiam for the opportunity to attend the Youth Leadership Summit. A project coach from Hopi Day School stated this about what the summit experience provides for students, "I believe they have become more confident in leading and sharing with their teams. They have built self-esteem and motivation in completing a task. They've done an excellent job."
Students engaged in a summit activity designed to promote teambuilding skills. Said a 12-year-old student from Zuni Middle School, "I learned that teamwork solves a lot of problems and it helps a lot. Using communication helps in difficult situations."
